Department to launch anti-drug campaign in schools and colleges

The school education department has decided to sensitise stakeholders against drug abuse by holding a two-day anti-drug campaign in educational institutions.

Director general of school education (DGSE) Kahan Singh Pannu said that students of all government, aided and private schools and colleges across the state would be provided awareness on the issue in the two-day drive.

He added, "Drug addiction is a serious problem amongst youngsters, controlling it is a major challenge. For any such effort top succeed, it is necessary to channelise the creative energy of the youngsters against the menace. The two-day campaign will be organised at such a large level where students will participate in seminars and competitions".

The schools and colleges would carry out awareness campaign per prescribed schedule by the education department.

"To channeliae the energy of the students to fight against the drug abuse, a major issue confronting society at large, an awareness campaign would be held on November 19 and 20 from 9.30 to 12pm. Besides lectures and seminars against drugs, competitions like poster making, slogan and poem writing will be held on the first-day of the morning assembly".

He added that the heads and senior teachers of the schools and colleges would inform the students about the harmful effects of drugs apart from seminars to be delivered by doctors, concerned NGO members and professors.

While all institutions would take out two hour anti drug campaign rallies carrying slogans charts, made by them on the first day, in their respective areas on November 20.

"We have also invited parents, school managing committee members to participate in a rally to spread the message at larger scale. The students should raise slogans in their respected areas while taking out rallies. The winners of the competitions will be awarded with cash prizes by the school and college authorities on the second day.
