Dera Sacha Sauda followers gave police more time to solve the murder of Satpal Kumar (65) and his son Ramesh Kumar (35) by two unidentified men at the canteen of sect’s congregation centre in Jagera village near Khanna on February 25.

A large number of ‘premis’ attended the bhog ceremony of father-son duo on Wednesday and agreed to extend the deadline they had set for the police to arrest the guilty. At the cremation of the victims on March 1, the dera followers had given police five days to solve the case.

“We have full faith in the police and they have assured us to crack the case soon. The police say they are close to nab the culprits and needed some more time,” said Sarwan Kumar, a member of the political affairs wing of the dera.

Two bike-borne gunmen killed Satpal and Ramesh and dera followers blocked the Ludhiana-Malerkotla road for two days. The followers agreed to cremate the bodies only after the intervention of director general of police (law and order) Hardeep Singh Dhillon.
