Though the outcome of the Delhi assembly elections has stunned the rival Congress and BJP parties, the former continues to remain upbeat in Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh expressing hope a strengthened Congress would soon bounce back with renewed vigour.
On the last day of the Congress party's three-day brainstorming session Virbhadra Singh, a veteran of many political battles, asked party cadres "not to lose heart". "The Congress is a time tested party and it will return to power as there is no other alternative. There are always ups and down in politics. Change of the law of society, we should accept the change and make effort to bounce back with strength and vigour. "One should not lose heart during the difficult phases. Every man faces ups and downs in life," he said told the party workers and leaders at Rajiv Bhawan.
Virbhadra mocked the BJP's performance in assembly elections in New Delhi. "We know that our party is facing bad times. Rather its recession period for the Congress. Look at what has happened to the party that came to power like a wind few months back. The election outcome in Delhi has shocked the BJP. Leaders who were flying high have fallen flat," he said.
Without naming anyone, Virbhadra also hit out at his arch political rival, former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal. "I have faced many ups and down in my political career. But I have not engaged in vengeance against anyone. Here the former BJP government was indicted in two cases. I faced the session trial and came out clean. I have forgiven the persons who implicated me in false cases," he said.
"The Congress party is one of the oldest parties in the world and our great leaders have played a major role in getting India free from British rule. After independence Congress leaders formulated policies which led to the overall development of the country and Himachal as well. Even at that time, no one would have thought that India would emerge as one of biggest economies in the world," Virbhadra said, while appreciating Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee President Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for his efforts to organize the convention.
On his part Sukhu credited the party and the Virbhadra-led government for the state's progress "Party workers had put forward valuable suggestions and views during the convention which would be helpful in preparing future strategy of the party. A report on the shortcomings and suggestions put forward by party workers would be prepared and the report and placed before party leadership after holding discussions with Virbhadra and other ministers," he added.
Sukhu said the suggestions put forward by them would help the party in resolving these issues and these suggestions would also help in strengthening party organisation at both the state and national level.
