Member of Parliament from Patiala Dharamveer Gandhi slammed the ministry of information and broadcasting for not taking any action against the cable mafia in Punjab even after the death of a cable operator in Amritsar.

Taking a serious note of the suicide committed by one of the cable operators in Amritsar, Gandhi expressed sympathy to the family members.

Gandhi said that he had raised an issue of the shutdown of two news channels Day & Night and ABP Sanjha News due to the monopoly of the cable mafia over the cable network two months ago with the minister of information and broadcasting Arun Jaitley.

He said that mafias of sand, cable, transport and drugs have been fostering under the patronage of the ruling government of Shiromani Akali Dal and Bharatiya Janata Party.

Gandhi appealed to his party workers and said that instead of indulging in the war of words within party, all party members have to be united against the ruling government to make this state free from mafia rule after the assembly elections in 2017.

Gandhi also raised the issue of the murder of two young children of a Dalit family at Jamalpur. He said that the family members of the victim have been protesting against the police and state government in Dhuri and appealed to the leadership of the state to gather there in the support of family members. He also informed that a programme has been chalked out to provide justice to the family.
