The charges have been levelled against him for not performing duty with honesty, not doing adequate sampling of food items as per the norms during his tenure, accepting gifts from the shopkeepers in his office and devaluating the name of the health department.

Dr Kumar allegedly accepted gifts from a bakery shop owner when he was in his office last year and a video of the same was also recorded. The director, health and family welfare, had then marked an inquiry into the case and it was found that number of samplings decreased considerably which indicated laxity in his attitude towards work.

The inquiry report stated that before Dr Kumar joined the office, there were nearly 100 samples collected per month in the district, but during the nine-month tenure of Dr Kumar, only 295 samples were collected.

However, Dr Kumar rejected all allegations and called the chargesheet a malafide action of the department. He said: “I was transferred to other place by the department when only two years were left for my retirement. I had challenged the transfer in the Punjab and Haryana high court and managed to get my posting back. Thus this is revengeful action of the department as inquiry has already been done into the matter.”
