DHO thrashed during raid at liquor shop

District health officer (DHO) Dr Abnash Kumar and his team raided a liquor shop on Pakhowal Road on Sunday night and found expired beer bottles.

When DHO and district food safety officer (DFSO) Ravinder Garg reached the shop and took four beer bottles for sampling, the attendant at the shop manhandled them.

Following this, DHO called the police and an FIR was lodged against the shop owner at Sadar police station.

DHO said, “We received a complaint that beer with expiry date were being sold at a liquor shop near Ravera Resort. When we went for collecting the samples, the attendant, Lakhwinder Singh, at the shop didn’t sign the sampling form and instead called some musclemen who manhandled me and took away two beer bottles collected for sampling.”

DHO said, “We called the police and lodged our complaint for manhandling and also interfering in government work.”

The health team also destroyed a few bottles of beer found expired on the spot after taking the sample.Sadar police station inspector Jatinderjit Singh said, “A case against Lakhwinder Singh and six more persons of Ekam Wine on Pakhowal Road has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC. No arrest was made till Monday.”
