Hitting out at the Congress-led state government for its “dismal” performance during its one year of rule in Himachal Pradesh, former chief minister and senior Bhaartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Prem Kumar Dhumal on Monday said the state government had done nothing of the sort which it could boast of.

Earlier, inaugurating a building of mahila mandal at Kotla, he told the people that the BJP was their friend and had done everything for them. He asked the people to join hands with the BJP for their welfare and well-being, adding that if they voted for the Congress party once again, they would be committing a major mistake.

Stating that the functioning of the Congress party government was highly unsatisfactory, the former chief minister said its leaders were fighting a battle for supremacy and rushing towards Delhi almost every fortnight to meet the party brass to sort out their issues and to seek financial support, as the state had gone bankrupt.

Talking about the central government, he said the people of Indian had not seen such a weak government since Independence. It had failed on all fronts and all its policies were pro-rich and anti-poor, he added.

Moreover, its foreign policy, domestic and other people-related policies failed to help the people, said Dhumal, alleging that all these policies of the Centre were framed under pressure of the World Bank and other foreign powers that had an eye on the Indian people and their wealth.

Dhumal said when Pakistani soldiers beheaded some Indian soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir, the Centre could not help them. It was a sheer joke with the Indian people and for such inefficient handling of situation, the defence minister should resign and seek apology from the people of country, said Dhumal.

He said: “India needs a strong leadership, which is possible only when the BJP comes to power under the leadership of Narendra Modi.” The people were for a change and once the elections arrived, the Congress would be routed badly and the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would form a government at the Center, he added.

The BJP leader gave a clarion call to the people of Indian in general and Himachal Pradesh in particular to have full faith in the BJP and vote for the party in the coming Lok Sabha polls that would be held in four months.

Meanwhile, former district BJP chief Pyere Lal Sharma reminded the people that whatever Hamirpur was today was due to the BJP and the Congress had no role in the major developmental activities of the district. He slammed the Congress leaders for claiming that Hamirpur was their creation and the BJP had done nothing for the district.

He said the people of the district knew that who was behind the development of the district.
