Though Anurag Thakur and Rajendra Rana would be contesting the Hamirpur seat on BJP and Congress ticket respectively, yet the main fight would be between their mentors, former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and the incumbent chief minister Virbhdra Singh respectively.

As such, the fight between Anurag and Rana would be in the backdrop of the shadows of both these stalwarts.
While the Congress party that has been losing on this seat since 1998 wants to grab it by all means, the BJP is determined to win at all costs to thwart the attempts of the Congress to create inroads into the strongholds of Dhumal.

While the BJP has won this seat eight times since 1967, the Congress party did so five times. Once the seat went to the then Janata Party. It's worth mentioning here that Anurag is the elder son of the former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, and Dhumals want to retain the seat as victory this time would enable Anuarg get a prestigious post in the cabinet of Narendra Modi, in case the BJP comes to power at the Centre.
On other hand, Congress leader and chief minister Virbhadra Singh wants to overturn the applecart of the BJP in its own citadel through Rajendra Rana.

With both the top leaders busy in the war of words and firing salvos relentlessly, the main fight would be seen once the process of filing nomination from Himachal starts on April 12th. The Congress party, through its state Youth Congress chief Vikrmaditya Singh, son of CM Virbhadrta has decided to concentrate on Hamirpur, the home district of Prem Kumar Dhumal.

There are reports that the CM has finalised a programme to cover all the seventeen assembly segments of the Hamirpur seat and launch a scathing attack on the BJP and Dhumal.Dhumal is already on a tour to Una district for canvassing, after which he would visit Dehra in Kangra, followed by Hamirpur and Bilaspur. Dhumal has been targeting the CM and his ministerial colleagues for their failure to help the people during the current regime.

On other hand, Rana is to launch his campaign from Hamirpur on Monday by holding a joint meeting with all the district-level leaders and workers of the party in Hamirpur.
