Dhuri bypoll: seven more file papers

Seven candidates filed nominations for the April 11 Dhuri bypoll on the last date on Tuesday, taking the total number to 14.

Seven candidates filed nominations for the April 11 Dhuri bypoll on the last date on Tuesday, taking the total number to 14.

Those who filed nominations on Tuesday included Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Gobind Singh Longowal and his covering candidate, Navrinder Preet Singh; Gaganjit Singh, the covering candidate for Congress-backed Sanjha Morcha nominee Simarpartap Singh Barnala; and Communist Party of India’s (CPI’s) Sukhdev Ram Sharma. Jora Singh, Gurmeet Singh and Sarabjit Singh filed papers as Independents.

District election officer Arshdeep Singh Thind said the scrutiny of papers would be conducted on March 25. Candidates can withdraw nominations on March 27 till 3pm. Counting will be held on April 15.
