The modified direct benefit transfer (DBT) scheme for LPG subsidy will be launched from January 1.
While giving this information here on Saturday, deputy commissioner Arshdeep Singh Thind said that gas agencies of the district should make people aware of the scheme and ask them to attach their gas connection with the bank account.
During a meeting with owners of gas agencies, the deputy commissioner also appealed the people to deposit the photo copy of their Adhar cards with the respective gas agencies to avail LPG subsidy. He also asked sarpanches to make villagers aware of the new scheme.
As per the scheme, LPG consumers in the district will start getting cash subsidy in their bank accounts so that they can buy the gas at the market price.
Cash equivalent to the difference between the current subsidised rate and the market price will be transferred to the bank account of a consumer the moment he or she makes the first booking for a cylinder after joining the scheme.
After the consumer takes delivery of the cylinder, another advance cash subsidy will be transferred to the bank account.
