Direct flight between Amritsar and Abu Dhabi demanded

The Amritsar Vikas Manch, a local NGO, has requested Etihad Airways to start direct flights from Abu Dhabi to Amritsar.
In a letter to James Hogan, president and chief executive officer of Etihad Airways, the Manch patron Charanjit Singh Gumtala, on Monday stated that there is great demand for such flights among the people of Amritsar. At present Qatar Airways, Uzbekistan Airways and Turkmenistan Airlines operate from Amritsar, besides Air India .
Pointing out that Etihad Airways has direct flights between Abu Dhabi and 11 Indian airports, namely Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kochi, Kozhikode, Mumbai, New Delhi ,Kolkata and Trivandrum, Gumtala said that the airways could add Amritsar to this list. A copy of the letter has also been sent to Capt Amarinder Singh, local MP and deputy leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha.
