Disabled minor girl raped by neighbour

In yet another case of rape of a minor girl by a person known to her family, a 17-year-old hearing and speech impaired girl has been raped by her 19-year-old neighbor in the city. The accused has been identified as Harjinder Singh, a resident of Kapatgarh area.

This is the seventh incident of rape reported in the city since January and the fourth involving a minor girl. The incident occur red on Thursday when the victim was alone at home. The accused allegedly broke the roof of the girl’s house to get in. According to the police, the victim’s parents are daily wage earners and were not at home when the incident took place.

A case in this regard has been registered against the accused under sections 376/451/511/354 of the IPC at Chheharta police station on the complaint of Hardeep Kaur, a resident of Kapatgarh and the mother of the victim. However, the accused is yet to be ar rested as he is absconding.

In the complaint lodged with the police, the complainant has al leged that her 17-year- old daughter is hearing and speech impaired. “She was alone at home when the incident took place. The accused entered through the roof of the house and raped her,” she said. The mother of the girl said that her elder daughter and son-in-law too live in the same locality and her son-in-law saw the accused, who fled on being spotted.

Sub Inspector Lakhwinder Singh of Chheharta police Station, who is investigating into the matter, said that the accused had passed Class 12 and was doing nothing thereafter. “The parents of the victim and the accused are daily wage earners,” he said.

He said investigations, so far, had revealed that both families had cordial relations. The SI further said that raids are being conducted at different places and the accused was likely to be arrested soon.
