Discus throw player, friend arrested for peddling drugs

The crime investigation agency (CIA) staff-1 on Thursday arrested a discus throw player and his friend after recovering 60 gm heroin from their possession.

The accused have been identified as Gurjinder Singh alias Jindi (28), a resident of Nandpur village of Sahnewal and Sandeep Singh alias Sonu (32), a resident of Aandlu village of Raikot.

CIA staff-1 sub-inspector Rajesh Thakur claimed, “The police arrested the accused from Pakhowal Road near Nehru Sidhhant Kendra following a tip-off. On frisking, the police recovered heroin worth Rs 30 lakh from them.”

“While Gurjinder Singh is a state-level discus throw player, Sandeep Singh is a graduate in computer application, and was working with a company at Feroze Gandhi Market. Both were drug addicts and they used to smuggle drugs to meet their need of drugs. Gurjinder had also been facing trial in a burglary case,” Thakur claimed.

He claimed, “The police have also confiscated an Innova car, one laptop and four mobile phones from their possession.”

A case under sections 22, 61, 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against them at Division Number 5 police station. The accused on Friday were produced before the court, which remanded them to one-day police custody.
