A woman and her husband on Monday duped Ferozepur district attorney (legal) Ashwani Bedi of rs 5 lakh on the pretext of job for his son in the excise and taxation department.
The Division Number 5 police have registered a case against the accused woman and her husband following the complaint of Bedi.
The accused have been identified as Apoorva Gujjar of Shalimar campus, Gulmohar Colony of Bhopal and her husband Robin Singh Gujjar. The case has been registered following an inquiry conducted by the economic offence wing of police commissionerate, Ludhiana.
In his complaint to the police, Bedi said the accused had contacted his son on social networking site and lured him that they held influence in government departments and they could secure post of excise and taxation officer for him.
Bedi said he had even deposited Rs5 lakh in the bank accounts of accused, who had neither arranged a job for his son nor returned the money.
Inspector Beant Juneja, station house officer (SHO) at the Division Number 5 police station, said a case under sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered. He said the police were on the lookout for the accused.
