Faridkot divisional commissioner VK Sharma reviewed the status of the railway under-bridge (RUB) on the Bathinda-Mansa road besides other development projects under construction during his visit to Bathinda on Thursday.

Sharma reviewed the repair work going on at the railway under-bridge, which was closed last week after its wall collapsed during the season's first rain. He enquired about the incident from deputy commissioner Kamal Kishore Yadav on the spot and directed him to hasten the repair work. He also told the administration to arrange for the shortest alternative path for the RUB during the rainy season.

Talking to reporters, Sharma said that keeping in mind the repair work going on at the RUB, the government had written to the railways seeking permission to open the railway cross-route for the convenience of the public.

He said the team constituted by chief minister Parkash Singh Badal was conducting an inquiry into the incident and he could not comment on this.Later, Sharma paid a surprise visit to the civil hospital where he interacted with the patients and took feedback about the facilities being provided.

He also reviewed the on-going development projects - the hockey astroturf stadium and the railway over-bridge on Ring Road.Sharma also visited the 'cancer short-stay home' being constructed by the Red Cross Society. "Relatives of cancer patients who came from far-off places will be given a place to stay at the home. It will be run by the Red Cross Society on a no-profit, no-loss basis," said Sharma.

He then visited the fard and suvidha kendras at the district court complex, where he asked the public whether they were getting various documents and licences on time.He also visited the primary health centre at Jeeda village.

Besides the Bathinda deputy commissioner, Sharma was accompanied by SDM Damanjit Singh Mann, assistant commissioner (general) Skattar Singh Bal, district transport officer Harjit Singh Sidhu and Bathinda Development Authority chief administrator APS Virk.
