A divorcee woman has alleged that a man, whom she trusted after her divorce with her husband, allegedly raped her. The Amritsar city police have booked Prince, a resident of Pawan Nagar, Batala Road, under section 376 IPC on charges of rape. The case has been registered against the accused on the complaint of the victim at 'A' division police station but he has not been arrested so far.
Inspector Kulwinder Kumar, who is investigating the matter, said the accused alleged that the complainant owes him money amounting to more than Rs 3 lakh. "The accused runs a committee, and the complainant used to contribute to the same. That's how they got acquainted with each other," he said.
The accused, a sympathiser of the woman with three children, who divorced her husband after being harassed by him for bringing inadequate dowry, allegedly raped her after she annulled her marriage and moved into an accommodation arranged for her by the accused.
The complainant has stated that earlier she was married to one Surinder Kumar, and had three children with him. She has alleged that her former husband used to harass her for bringing inadequate dowry and used to thrash her and her children too.
"According to the complainant, the accused who was aware of her agony, often used to sympathise with her because of which she divorced her husband," the inspector said. He added that the complainant had also alleged that the accused arranged a rented house for her and promised to marry her. "She alleged that the accused had physical relations with her, but did not marry her as he had promised her," said Kulwinder Kumar.
The inspector maintained that the accused too had alleged that the woman owed him money amounting Rs 3.30 lakh. "A case has been registered against the accused in this regard under section 376 of the IPC on the complaint of the woman, but no arrest has been made yet.
The complainant's charges of physical assault against the accused and the latter's allegation that she did not return the money she borrowed from him are being verified," he added.
