Members of the Punjab Civil Medical Services Association (PCMSA) on Monday observed a strike to protest the recent mass transfers of doctors even as those posted at the Pathankot civil hospital came to the rescue of patients who arrived in scorching heat to get treatment.
The striking doctors even attended to medical emergencies, beside the OPD patients, at the district hospital.
Two doctors posted at Pathankot were transferred even though the buzz was that one of the transfer orders had been cancelled, claimed Dr Sunil Dogra, district president of PSMSA, while talking to the media persons here.
He claimed that many transfer orders defied logic, adding that doctors who had been transferred out had joined here just six months ago.
A pathologist Dr Neerja claimed that she was unmarried and had thus been transferred against rules and regulations. She said that she would be left with no option but to resign her job in case her transfer was not revoked.
The transfer of two surgeons posted at a primary health centre at Badhani has also come in for criticism from the striking doctors.
