The alleged negligence of doctors at a private hospital in the city cost a pregnant woman her and her child’s life. The deceased woman has been identified as Rajni, a resident of Majitha Road.

The Amritsar City police have booked a female doctor of the private hospital in this regard under Sections 304-A/34 of the IPC in a case registered at Sadar police station.

The case has been registered on the complaint of Ramesh Kumar, a resident of Majitha Road and the husband of the deceased woman, who in the complaint lodged with the police, has alleged that his wife Rajni was nine-month pregnant and used to get her routine check-up done from this private nursing home.

He added that on Monday night his wife experienced labour pains and he took her to the accused doctor, who told him to admit his wife to the hospital and said his wife would deliver the baby normally within 15 minutes. However, late at night the accused doctor informed him that his wife was not well because of which she could not deliver normally and needed an operation.

The complainant has alleged that the accused later referred his wife to the Children’s Ward of Guru Nanak Dev Hospital without informing him. However, the doctors on duty there informed him that his wife and unborn child had died before reaching the hospital. The complainant alleged that he approached the authorities of the private nursing home for an explanation, but in vain.

Sub-inspector Prem Pal, in-charge, Majitha Road by pass police post, said a case has been registered against the doctor of the private nursing home. “The matter is being investigated,” he said.
