Dosanjh seeks action against those threatening Anna Hazare

punjab Updated: Apr 02, 2015 16:52 IST

Former BC Premier Ujjal Dosanjh has sought action against those who have threatened prominent anti-corruption campaigner Anna Hazare. A staunch Gandhian, Hazare was recently threatened on social media by a resident of Edmonton, Canada.

In his facebook posts, Gagan Vidhu from Edmonton said that he would be the next Nathuram Godse and kill modern Gandhi (Hazare).

Hazare has been in the forefront of the anti corruption agitation in India and is known as a follower of Gandhi’s ideology of non violence. The threat comes close to the recent murder of a leftist activist Govind Pansare in Maharashtra, which is the home state of Hazare. Pansare was opposed to the glorification of Godse by the Hindu nationalist groups. Taking no chances, the authorities have already beefed up security around Hazare to ensure his safety.

Dosanjh, who is a vocal critic of terrorism and violence, has warned the Canadian authorities about the threat through his blog and has sought prosecution of those involved. He was physically assaulted for speaking up against Sikh extremism in the past. An admirer of Gandhi, Dosanjh recently expressed his concerns over recent attempts to glorify Godse in India.

He had also challenged the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi through his blog to speak up against the growing threat of Hindu extremism.
