Patiala MP Dr Dharamvira Gandhi has lambasted the National Democratic Alliance government for its decision to allow 100% foreign direct investment (FDI) in seven important sectors of the economy, including defence and retail.
“Allowing 100% FDI in defence may compromise the security of the country and opening of retail sector to FDI will ruin crores of small traders and people associated with it across the country,” said Dr. Gandhi in a press statement issued here on Wednesday.
“Moreover in earlier concessions to FDI in the manufacturing sector, the condition of transfer of technology has been dispensed with in fresh proposals, which is detrimental for the growth of our indigenous industry and the overall economic development of the country. Worth mentioning here that the finance capital, wherever it goes, its basic nature is to exploit and plunder the country it visits,” added Dr Gandhi.
Reminding BJP of its stiff opposition to 100% FDI in defence and retail during the UPA regimes, Dr Gandhi questioned the logic behind the fresh move of the government. “If 100% FDI was wrong and anti-people during UPA-2, then how far is this right and pro-people in 2016,” Dr. Gandhi quipped.
