Reading the HT report and looking at the picture of flooded roads under the railway overbridge near the bus stand here, deputy commissioner GK Singh on Wednesday asked the sewerage department to lay a 2700-foot pipe to drain this water.

The orders are to complete the process before the end of May, when the rainy season will begin. The DC noted that it was a long-pending problem that no one had tried to solve. He called the sewerage board officials to draw a plan, and ensure that rainwater was drained fully without any choking of the pipes.

Reviewing the other projects, the DC also asked officials to lay a sewerage line costing Rs 5 crore near the railway station in another 30 days. The work will benefit nearly 30 residential colonies. He also asked the municipal coporation and drainage department employees to draw a plan for cleaning up all drainage channels before the monsoon.

KP Goel, executive engineer of the sewerage board; MM Syal, executive engineer of the muncipal coproration; Rajiv Sekhri, executive engineer of the improvement trust, and officials of the drainage and irrigation department were present.
