The municipal corporation of Ludhiana will start a drive in collaboration with the traffic police to free the city roads from unauthorised parking.

Many roads, especially in zone D, have unauthorised parking due to lack of parking space. The drive will also target the vehicles that are parked wrongly which disrupt the traffic.

The drive will start on several roads, including Gumar Mandi, Malhar road, Dandi Swami Road from next week. Teams of the tehbazari wing and the traffic police will co-ordinate with each other. The drive will first begin at zone D.

At present, the tehbazari wing cannot issue challans to the vehicles parked wrongly in any area of the city. Traffic wing officials accompanying the MC team will issue challans to vehicles.

Jasdev Sekhon, superintendent of D zone, said that the drive would start next week in which challans would be issued to the vehicles that are parked wrongly.

"Areas like the Malhar road where a large number of vehicles are parked everyday due to presence of several restaurants will also be targeted so that the obstruction on the road could be removed" said Sekhon.

He said the traffic police and MC had carried out a similar drive earlier also. The drive was limited to the Ferozepur road regarding which directions were issued by the high court to remove vehicles from service lanes.

"Now it has been decided that all major areas would be on the vigil of the MC and drives would be carried out on daily basis from next week" said Sekhon.

Interestingly municipal commissioner Rahul Tewari had taken away the powers of the tehbazari wing to challan wrongly parked vehicles following complaints by city residents.
