State Director Medical Education and Research (DMRE) has sought an explanation from authorities of Government Rajindra College and Hospital on the storage of expired and termite-infested medicines at its medical store.
DRME Dr Tejveer Singh has also issued strict warnings that no such instance must be repeated at the hospital.
Sources said that the DRME has sought a detailed explanation on why were expired or near-expiry drugs purchased in the first place. The in-charge of the drug store has also been asked to furnish an explanation on his failure to inspect and kep a record of the stock every day.
"The keys of the storeroom were with medical superintendent Dr VK Sharda. The room remained locked after the previous controversy of expired medicines being stored at the hospital in May," said a source.
Officiating medical superintendent Dr Tarlochan Singh Poonia confirmed that DRME had sought an explanation, but refused to say any further.
