After the recovery of body of 16-year-old cricketer from Bhakra canal, the family members of the deceased staged protest near bus stand and blocked the traffic, alleging police inaction in the case.

The deceased, Abhishek, a resident of local 66 KV Grid colony, drowned in Bhakra canal while swimming with his friends on August 19. Parents alleged that his six friends murdered their son by pushing him into the deep waters of the canal.

Lucky, a family relative, said Abhishek was state-level cricket player and went with his friends for swimming in the canal but his friends never informed the family about any mishappening.

“When he did not return, a resident from the colony informed us next day that he saw him with his friends going towards Bhakra Canal, after that we made a police complaint,” Lucky said. “The dead body was recovered from the canal but police have not arrested his friends who are responsible for the incident. We were forced to block the road,” he added. Amrik Singh, investigation officer from Passian police station, said, “The case was registered under Section 304 A (causing death by negligence) against Neeraj, friend of the deceased and investigation is underway to nab the other accused.’’
