The body of a youth, who drowned in the Sutlej river on Friday, was fished out from the river on Saturday morning. However, his friend, Sunny, 20, is still missing. The divers tried to locate him, but did not succeed. They will resume the operations on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Anil Bhagat, 16, of Jawahar Nagar Camp.

A pall of gloom descended on Anil's house in the Jawahar Nagar area.

Anil Bhagat, the youngest amongst three sisters and a brother was a student of Class 10 while Sunny worked in a workshop that deals in electrical equipment repair.

According to Jeet Bhagat, father of the deceased, Anil went out with his friend Sunny, saying that he will be back by evening. However, he did not return. In the evening, a rumour spread in the colony that some of the boys of the locality have drowned in the Sutlej.

"We tried to search Anil, but could not locate him. At 6pm, we received a phone call informing that Anil and Sunny have drowned in the river," he added. "When we reached the spot, we found their clothes and belongings lying on the bank of the river," said sobbing Jeet.

Sunny's mother was inconsolable. His father had died a few years ago. According to Sunny's brother Deepak, Sunny left the house saying that he was going to take a dip in the river.
