A local court has discharged six accused including an NRI Anoop Singh Kahlon, who was arrested by police in a drug haul case.
Kahlon got temporary relief in one case; but his other cases are still pending in court.
Police, in March, had claimed to bust a drug peddling nexus between India and western countries drug traffickers by nabbing its kingpin Kahlon and his aide Kulwinder Singh Rocky by recovering 26-kg heroin worth Rs 130 crore in the international market.
After the arrest of these persons a case was registered against them at Fatehgarh Sahib police station on March 3. On March 8, the Mandi Gobindgarh police had claimed to have arrested NRI Manpreet Singh alias Manni Gill,35, a resident of Dala village of Moga and his relative Gabbar Singh, 27 of Dhokowal village of Hoshairpur and reportedly seized over 2-kg heroin, 20-kg chemical power and hawala currency of Rs 1 crore.
A case under various sections of the NDPS Act was registered against duo at Mandi Gobindgarh police station.
Police constituted special investigation team (SIT) and had arrested several persons in both the cases.
Mandi Gobindgarh police had presented a challan against nine persons in a local court on May18 but SIT members recently submitted before court that no contraband was recovered from the accused.
They also filed the application for discharge of these persons. The court also discharged Sunil Katyal when his counsel pleaded that no contraband was recovered from his client.
Though no contraband was recovered from Chander Parkash Yadav but the slips testing chemical of contraband issued by Yadav was recovered from Gill.
