The left ankle of 5-foot-10-inch drug lord Jagdish Singh Bhola buckled under his 125-kilogram weight and put the former wrestler in Rajindra Hospital here on Wednesday.
The X-ray examination reveals a fracture in the joint bone. Doctors have plastered his foot and called him back after 15 days. Bhola told them that it was an old football injury carried from the Nabha jail, which had reoccurred on Monday when he had to climb an excess flight of stairs to the fifth-floor Patiala court of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) special judge, to whom the money laundering case linked to the synthetic drug scandal has been transferred. Earlier, this court was on the ground floor.
Bhola said he had to make multiple rounds of the court. Doctors told HT this kind of injury could have only two causes — either excess weight or jumping from a height.
Nabha jail superintendent Gurpal Singh said Bhola had this pain for a couple of days and the prison medical officer had on Wednesday referred him to Rajindra Hospital when the pain had aggravated. “The jail medical officer will decide after looking at the medical reports of Bhola where to keep him — in the barracks or under his observation at the prison hospital,” he said.
