Singh was wanted in 16 different police cases and had been declared a proclaimed offender in two of these, said SSP Inderbir Singh, while addressing the media on Thursday.
The Kotwal police arrested Singh on Wednesday near Dogranwal village on the Fattudhinga road, when he was on his motorcycle (PB-08-AQ-8819).
"We frisked him and discovered 1.25 kg of charas (hashish form of cannabis)," the SSP added.
"The district police acted very efficiently and in a coordinated manner to nab Punjab Singh. The team members will be recommended for the award of appreciation certificates."
However, the SSP did not share details of the police operation, leading to the arrest of Punjab Singh.
"Legal action would be taken against those who assisted or sheltered the accused," said the SSP.
"Punjab Singh had been under police surveillance for long. He was found to be involved in cases of extortion, attempt to murder, drug peddling, land grabbing and other anti-social activities. Several other facts are expected to come to light after investigations."
"We will motivate people to come forward and register complaints against Punjab Singh. Their security will be our responsibility," said the SSP.
Sub-division deputy SP, Paramjeet Singh, Kotwali SHO Naresh Joshi and CIA in charge, Harjit Singh, were present at the press conference.
