Congress legislature party leader Charanjit Singh Channi on Wednesday dubbed the state government’s campaign against drugs as a cover-up.
“Going by reports, it is clear that police have mainly nabbed the addicts rather than taking action against those involved in the drug smuggling,” said Channi in a statement in Chandigarh.
“The campaign is just a cover-up to counter the attack that the drug menace had spread its tentacles under the patronage of SAD leaders,” he added.
Channi took strong exception to the state government’s claims over that the propaganda about Punjab having turned into drug haven was motivated. He advised deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal to go through SAD manifestos that had admitted to the drug menace in the state and promised to set up de-addiciton centres as remedial measures.
Channi also criticised the SAD for propagating that there was a conspiracy to defame the state through the film ‘Udta Punjab’.
