A cop created ruckus near Dandi Swami Chowk allegedly in inebriated condition and also misbehaved with the passersby late on Saturday. Demanding action against the errant cop, the locals staged a protest outside the police lines after the incident.

The division number 5 police reached the spot and have detained the "misbehaving" cop. The accused cop, who has been identified as constable Vijay Bharti, was taken to civil hospital for medical examination by assistant sub-inspector Jagjeet Singh.

Bharti has been posted as a gunman with a senior police official. The cop had stopped two men, who were heading towards their home, near Dandi Swami Chowk on Saturday and misbehaved with them. According to the men, the cop was in inebriated condition. The men, who are the residents of the same area, had called on their relatives and staged protest outside the Police Lines.

Assistant sub-inspector assured the protesters of action against the cop. The matter was brought to the notice of senior police officials.
