In a shocking incident, a man under the influence of liquor allegedly set his wife on fire in Mundian Kalan on Saturday.

The victim, Seema, 25, suffered 60% burns and is undergoing treatment at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

The Jamalpur police have registered a case of attempt to murder against the accused, Pardeep Kumar.
In her complaint, Seema said she married Kumar around three years ago, adding that he was an acute drinker and used to thrash her under the influence of liquor.

She alleged that on Saturday, Kumar, who was in an inebriated condition, set her on fire. Hearing her cries for help, neighbours rushed to their house and took her to Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) from where she was referred to DMCH.

Seema alleged that her mother-in-law and sisters-in-law used to instigate her husband to thrash her.
Jamalpur station house officer (SHO) inspector Sukhbir Singh said after the judicial magistrate recorded the statement of victim at the hospital, the police arrested Kumar and produced him in court that remanded him in one-day police custody.
