Employees of the district transport office (DTO) on Tuesday skipped their work after receiving information that a team of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau may raid the office premises following complaints of malpractices there.

The visitors had to bear the brunt of the sudden move as the windows for taking photographs for making driving licenses remained shut the whole day.

Other five counters in the office opened at 11am. The counter meant for issuing high-security number plates also remained closed due to technical snag in computer sets.

It was only after district transport officer JS Dhillon deputed some employees at the windows that the visitors' application forms for driving licences were received.

The DTO said the staff had gone to the district court for some official work. But he could not answer as why the entire staff went to the court all of a sudden.

In January too, the DTO staff had also closed the office fearing vigilance raid.
