Dubai-based industrialist-philanthropist SP Singh Oberoi on Friday donated a van and assured a monthly contribution of Rs 20,000 for the students of a school being run from a slum here.
Appreciating the role of National Integrated Forum of Artists and Activists (NIFAA) in educating slum children, Oberoi said initiatives such as this should be supported by all sections of society.
"It should be taken as a collective responsibility to support the underprivileged sections of society. I observed the activities of NIFAA closely before chipping in with financial and other support. My charitable trust is committed to helping those working with utmost sincerity and transparently," he said.
NIFAA is holding two makeshift schools at slums to enable the children living there to come to theses classes regularly. These students are enrolled in three different private schools, and NIFAA now plans to train them in disciplines such as skating, dance, athletics.
The NIFAA demand for a van as safe means of transport for students was duly accepted by philanthropist Oberoi. On the occasion, children presented cultural programmes, delivered speeches, and performed in a stunt show.
