With just two days left for the zila parishad and panchayat samiti elections, the BJP roped in former MP Vinod Khanna to campaign for the party candidates. Khanna addressed two rallies on Thursday and appealed to the people to give a resounding defeat to the Congress and other opposition parties in the ensuing polls.
“The parliamentary elections are round the corner. The results of the zila parishads and block samities would have a bearing on these elections. Give the Congress and its partners a message that their services are not needed anymore,” he said during a rally organised at a marriage palace in the city.
Khanna said that the UPA government headed by the Congress was steeped in corruption. “If despite the presence of a strong opposition and media glare, the Congress ministers had not refrained from looting the public money to the tune of hundreds of crores of rupees, imagine what it would have done when it was the sole major political party,” said the actor-turned politician. “This party does not deserve another chance and must be dumped forever,” he asserted. He said the only party that could fill the aspirations of the public was BJP. Later, he also attended a rally in Adamwal village. Former minister Tikshan Sud accompanied him.
Later, replying to a media query, Khanna said he was keen to contest the next parliamentary elections provided the BJP put its faith in him. He said he had joined politics to serve people.
