After it dragged Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor into 'love jihad', Durga Vahini -women wing of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) -has now taken on another Bollywood star Deepika Padukone for her video 'My Choice', which has generated over 4 lakh views.
The black-and-white 2.34 min long video, directed by Homi Adajania, features the actress calling for a change in the mindset of men about women and asks men to stop judging women for their choices of dresses and lifestyle. The film has featured 99 women, including several celebrities, talking about their choices in their life.
Durga Vahini's regional convener Rajni Thukral said the video was being promoted in the name of women empowerment. "Whatever Padukone said, may be her personal views, but being a celebrity, thousands of youth follow her," Thukral said in a press statement issued here.
She also accused Padukone of insulting women by talking about clothes and married life. "In our society, we respect women, but these high-profile women can do anything for the sake of money," she added. She also demanded ban on such films.
"Films are not only for entertainment, but in our society we also follow the actor or the act in films," she said. Durga Vahini would soon organise a week-long training camp for girls where they would be made aware about love jihad and safety, he said, adding that during the camp the video would be played and protest would also be held against it.
Durga Vahini raised a controversy in January this year, when a morphed picture of Kareena Kapoor was used on the cover page of the monthly magazine-'Himalaya Dhwani', highlighting 'love jihad' and conversions of Hindu girls.
