The Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for Dhuri bypoll, where voting would take place on April 11.
A spokesman of the chief electoral officer, Punjab on Tuesday said that the notification would be issued on March 17 and last date of making nomination has been declared on March 24. He further said that scrutiny of nominations would take place on March 25, whereas last date for withdrawal of candidatures would be March 27.
The timing of voting would be from 8 am to 5 pm and counting of votes would be held on April 15.
He further said the commission has decided to use EVMs in the bye-election in all the polling stations. Adequate numbers of EVMs have been made available and all steps have been taken to ensure that the polls are conducted smoothly with the help of these machines.
The model code of conduct has come in force with immediate effect in the district in which assembly constituency going for bye-election is included.
The model code of conduct would be applicable to all candidates, political parties and the state government concerned. The model codes of conduct would also applicable to the union government for the state concerned, he added.
