Notwithstanding the previous UPA government's decision of providing OBC quota to the Jat community, Congress legislature party (CLP) leader Kiran Choudhry has said reservation should be given on economic basis instead of caste.

Talking to mediapersons in Bhiwani on Wednesday, Choudhry said: "Caste should not be the basis for reservation. It should be provided on economic basis. Needy people of all communities should be given reservation benefits."

She also slammed the state government for not allowing the Opposition members raise the issues of public interest. "I had submitted 78 questions of public interest in the Haryana assembly, but only nine were allowed on the floor of the House."

On the Union government's land acquisition bill, Choudhry said the Congress would hold a national-level rally at the Ramlila ground in Delhi on April 19. "Farmers from across the country will participate in the rally to express their anger against the Union government for introducing the anti-farmer law," she said.

The Congress leader also accused the state BJP government for delaying mining operations in the Tosham region. She said the formalities for the mining operations had been completed in November last year.

Choudhry asked the state government to announce the date when the farmers would get Rs 5,000 old-age pension. She also demanded `20,000 per acre compensation to the rain-hit farmers of the state.

She said the Congress would oppose the proposed toll plaza on the Hisar-Bhiwani road near Tosham.
