The championship was organised by the education department. Giving away the prizes at the function, Punjab state education department’s additional education officer Bikramjeet Singh Bhanot announced that students representing their schools in State School Games would also have their travelling and food expenses paid for by the department.
While expenses of students participating at national-level sporting events of schools are already paid for, this is the first time the state has announced that the state government will make the same provision for the State School Games.
Bhanot said online registration process had made organising and conducting such events at the national as well as the state level easier.
Referring to the national school games, which are likely to be held in November, he said the players would be selected for the event later.
Private schools participating in the championships would have to pay a sports fee as part of the registration process, said district education officer Paramjeet Kaur Chahal.
