Elderly man killed in road accident

An elderly man died after being hit by a mini truck near Krishna Mandir in SBS Nagar on Pakhowal Road on Wednesday morning.Although, the driver tried to escape, other commuters chased him and got him arrested. Inderjit Singh, in charge of SBS Nagar police station, said a PCR team from Dugri reached the spot and arrested the accused, identified as Balbir Singh, a resident of Uttar Pradesh.

The police said the mini truck belonged to a poultry farm. The victim was reportedly returning from the temple after having sweetened water at its community kitchen. The police was not been able to identify the body and would be keeping it in the mortuary for next 72 hours.

Balbir Singh has been booked under Sections 279 (rash driving) and 304 (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code.
