The municipal council authorities have thwarted one Janak Raj Kanwal Saraf from encroaching upon a 30 ft of public street on the Library Road opposite Bhag Singh Road. Saraf claims to have purchased the land from one Simran Singh.

Masons and labourers hired by Saraf have constructed pillars to install a gate and walls to demarcate the land. Residents had complained to the MC authorities about the illegal construction.

MC executive officer Manjinder Singh Bandesha said, "The matter will be presented before Gurdaspur sub divisional magistrate and the deputy commissioner. Illegal construction will be demolished. A criminal case will be filed against the parties concerned if the land had been sold in a deal."

Saraf wanted to include the land in his residence as it was attached to it. A team of MC officials led by junior engineer Omesh Aggarwal were sent to the site. They ordered the labourers to stop the construction. Saraf was ordered to present a legal proof of buying the land.
