Jagdish Singh Bhola, the main accused in the multi-crore drug racket, was eventually produced in the district court here on Monday. The police had failed to bring him to the court during the past three hearings.
However, the hearing on Bhola’s bail application, filed in December last year by his counsel Satish Karkara, was adjourned to January 23 since the Enforcement Directorate (ED) failed to file a reply in the court against the bail plea.
Meanwhile, after Karkara raised questions over Bhola’s security, the latter was brought to the court under heavy police cover. His counsel has served notices on the Nabha jail superintendent, citing threat to Bhola’s life due to the high-profile case.
Later, Karkara said, “Due to the transfer of ED’s assistant director Niranjan Singh, the proceedings of the case have been affected. The ED’s officer present in the court on Monday expressed his inability to file such a reply. The ED also failed to present any special public prosecutor in the court.”
He added, “The court has now asked the ED to file a reply on January 23.”
The police personnel kept mediapersons at bay and didn’t allow them to talk to Bhola.
