Students of the Adesh Institute of Engineering and Technology, Sadak Road, Faridkot, went on a strike on Tuesday and blocked the Sadak-Faridkot road for an hour.
The protesters alleged that the college principal, RP Singh, misbehaved with girl students and demanded his immediate transfer.
"The behaviour of the principal of the engineering institute is not acceptable. He misbehaves with girls," alleged Shakshi, a student of the college.
She claimed that the principal refused to approve the leave of a girl student, who was pregnant and passed vulgar comments.
"The girl's in-laws are afraid and she is not a part of the protest. However, we are raising the issue in the interest of students," she claimed.
The strike began in the college opposite the main gate.
"We blocked the Sadak-Farikot road near the college for about half an hour. We were protesting peacefully, when the police started using force to disperse the protesters," alleged another student Sonu.
He claimed: "The protest shall continue and we will again sit on a dharna against the management opposite the college gate on Wednesday."
Faridkot Sadar SHO Gurpreet Singh said: "No force was used. The protest was the result of an internal issue between the college management and the students. We did not interfere in it. However, we used mild force to remove the blockade of raid by the students. No case has been registered against anybody."
College principal RP Singh has rubbished the allegations levelled against him calling them them baseless. "All girl students are like my daughters and granddaughters," he told HT over the phone.
