An engineering seat aspirant at University School of Engineering and Technology (UIET) has alleged wrong seat allotment by Joint Admission Committee (JAC) in the girls’ child category. The student has written to vice-chancellor, PU, Dean University Instructions (DUI) and JAC stating that in the admission brochure of the JAC-2014, there were two additional seats for each of the five disciplines of UIET and other engineering institutes affiliated to Panjab University. But during admissions, the rule was violated by Joint Admission Committee (JAC), conducting admissions for UIET and several other engineering institutes.

“In the computer science and engineering branch of UIET, a seat with all India rank 27653 had been allotted under the category. In fact this candidate as per the admission rules should have been allotted a general category seat as candidates with lower ranks than this candidate had also been allotted computer science and engineering in UIET,” Ennayat Kapoor, stated in her written complaint.

The complainant also gave another example according to which another candidate with all India rank 49760 had been allotted seat in chemical engineering at SSBUICET, Panjab University under the category but as per the admission rules should have been in general category seat. “The admission rules have been flouted as the admission to the SG category in any discipline can only start once the general category merit was exhausted,” she added. When contacted, JAC committee head, US Shivhare, said that admissions had been done as per rules. “There is no violation in giving admissions conducted by JAC. The allegations are baseless,” Shivhare added.
