Karnal MP Ashwini Kumar Chopra has mocked chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar for his frequent use of helicopter for official tours across Haryana.

In an interview to Hindustan Times, Chopra said Khattar should start visiting villages via road to understand the core problems of villagers.

"I have visited already more than 100 villages of my constituency whereas most of the time Khattarji is flying around the state. He has toured various urban areas but not the villages. I think that the CM should now concentrate on villages to assess the ground realities," said Chopra, owner of a Hindi newspaper.

Both leaders had hardly shared dais at the public functions and Chopra has skipped almost all public rallies addressed by Khattar in parts of Karnal and Panipat districts, falling in the Karnal parliamentary constituency.

However, Chopra, a known critic of Khattar, seems to have sunk his political differences with the Haryana CM.

He claimed that owing to health issues, he could not attend public functions chaired by Khattar.

"I was indisposed for more than two months due to dengue and remained out of direct touch with my constituency and others. But now I am fit and ready for the next innings," said Chopra, a former Ranji cricket player of Punjab team.

Chopra denied that he had strained relations with Khattar.

"I am in habit of speaking my mind and Khattar has always taken it accordingly. When I publicly pointed out that CM was surrounded with corrupt and dubious persons, Khattar reacted to my honest observation and made changes in his offices. I am happy that bureaucrats like Sanjeev Kaushal, RK Khullar and Rakesh Gupta, known as efficient officials, have been given important assignments," he said.

On the functioning of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the state, Chopra said that Khattar was emerging as an able administrator.

Chopra admitted that he was among those who had cast doubts over Khattar's ability to run the government. He said that Khattar had impressed all as he is an honest and tough task master.
"During the past ten months, Khattar has proved himself as the CM. He has got complete grip on the administration and no one questions Khattar's integrity. He has a rare quality to work more than 15 hours on daily basis," said Chopra.
