Eve-teaser injures girl in Batala village

A college girl was injured seriously with a sharp-edged weapon when she spurned the advances of an eve-teaser on Tuesday afternoon at Dheran village in the Ghuman police jurisdiction near this town.

The victim, Lovepreet Kaur of Pannu Polytechnic goes to college by bus after parking her bicycle at the village bus stop. On Tuesday evening, as she collected her bicycle from the spot as ususl, a village youth, Gurdeep Singh, started chasing and harassing her.

When she resisted, the youth tried to manhandle her, and when she raised an alarm, he allegedly attacked her with a sharp-edged weapon. Her cries brought the nearby shopkeepers to her rescue, forcing the attacker to flee. The shopkeeper moved the girl to hospital.

Ghuman station house officer (SHO) Kamalmeet Singh inspected the crime scene and on the victim's statement, registered a case under Section 354 (assault or criminal force with intent to outrage woman's modesty), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), and 323 (punishment for causing injuries voluntarily) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Gurdeep Singh.
