Former governor and veteran politician Sultan Singh passes away at a Delhi hospital on Tuesday after a prolonged illness. He was 92. Singh, who had remained a member of Rajya Sabha three times, was cremated with full state honours by the district administration in Rohtak.
Politicians cutting across party lines, including INLD senior leader Abhay Singh Chautala, Congress MLA Raghuvir Kadyan and BJP leaders, were present to bid him last farewell.
Family sources told the media that Singh was admitted to Delhi's Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for the last some days.
Singh, who was fifth governor of Tripura from 1989 to 1990, hailed from Majra village in Sonepat district and was based in Rohtak town. He is survived by three daughters and two sons.
Meanwhile, Haryana chief minister ML Khattar has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of former governor Sultan Singh.
Khattar conveyed his condolences to the members of bereaved family and prayed to the Almighty for the peace of the departed soul. He described Singh as an efficient leader who would be remembered for long for his excellent public services.
