A meet of ex-servicemen and war widows was organised at the Kapurthala military station on Thursday. Station Commander of the Kapurthala Military Station Brig RV Desai heard the grievances of the ex-servicemen.

As many as 300 ex-servicemen, including gallantry award winners, and 30 war widows attended the rally.

"The servicemen, while in uniform, gave their prime youth to the service of the nation. To maintain a youthful profile of this elite organisation of the Armed Forces, many of these dedicated men superannuated at their prime age. They, however, continued to be physically and mentally strong," said Brig Desai.

He added that 2012 had been dedicated as the year of veterans and the meet was organised with an aim to welcome all ex-servicemen of the district and inform them regarding initiatives taken by the army for their welfare.

A representative of the District Sainik Welfare Board enlightened the veterans and ex-serviceman about the various projects taken up by the state government.

Grievances of ex-servicemen and veer naris (war widows) were addressed by the station commander, who assured that their grievances would be solved as early as possible.

Kavita Desai, wife of Brig Desai, honoured the war windows and distributed cheques to help them financially.
