Amarjeet Singh Sandhu, a former Congress leader, has been arrested for allegedly raping his employee after sedating her at his office in Syal complex on Gill road on Monday.

Sandhu (44), who had been thrown out of Congress after he decided to contest the 2012 assembly elections as an independent from Atam Nagar constituency, was arrested from Dhandhran road on Tuesday.

A resident of Satjot Nagar of Dhandhran, Sandhu owns a poultry farm in Kila Raipur, and had set up an office at Syal complex in the name of Sri Hargobind Poultry Farm.

The 22-year-old victim belongs to Nangal, and was currently living in Rajguru Nagar in Ludhiana.

In her complaint to the Division Number 2 police, the victim said she had come to know about the vacancy at Sandhu's office through an advertisement published in a newspaper. She said she applied for the job and appeared for an interview on Saturday, and joined the office on Monday.

She alleged that Sandhu took her to his farm house from where they returned around 3:30 pm on Monday. Later, around 6 pm, when she sought Sandhu's permission to leave the office, the accused offered her a soft drink. The victim alleged that she fell unconscious after consuming the drink, following which the accused raped her.

She claimed after raping her, Sandhu threw her out of the office and fled after locking the office. On regaining consciousness, she called her friend and narrated the whole incident to him, who then took her to the civil hospital and informed the police.

Later, after the medical examination, the police registered a case against Sandhu.

Inspector Gurpreet Singh, station house officer (SHO), Division Number 2 police station, said the accused would be produced before the court on Wednesday.
