Expelled Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kishan Lal Sharma sounded a poll bugle for the upcoming assembly elections in the state by attacking Jalandhar Central MLA Manoranjan Kalia without naming him at the ‘insaaf rally’ held here on Sunday.
Sharma was joined in the rally by Patiala member of Parliament (MP) Dr Dharamvira Gandhi, Ludhiana Independent MLA Simarjit Singh Bains and hundreds of his supporters.
Taking on Kalia without naming him, he said drugs, hooliganism and illicit liquor have flourished in the area at the MLA’s behest.
He alleged that the MLA and a group of his supporters gave shelter to the accused involved in the murder of Manpreet Singh Manu, 20,, a Lyallpur Khalsa college student in Guru Nanak Pura East on May 25 and appealed to the people to throw such leaders out of politics.
Sharma, who is chairman of the Jan Jagriti Manch, announced to hold an ‘Adhikar rally’ after 20 days in the Central town of the city where Kalia resides and a ‘Badlav rally’ in the Ladhewali locality. Guru Nanak Pura, Central town and Ladhewali come under the jurisdiction of the Jalandhar Central constituency, represented by Kalia in the assembly.
He blamed the MLA for the transfer of earlier police commissioner Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh from the city, when he took action against those who are responsible for the spread of drugs and illicit liquor in the area.
Surprisingly, Sharma did not take Kalia’s name this time. However, on May 27 at a press conference, he had levelled serious allegations against him, claiming that Qazi Mandi, Guru Nanak Pura and Chuggiti areas had become drug havens and Kalia was responsible for the same.
Sharma and his supporters had even raised slogans against Kalia. He was suspended from the BJP the same night.
Patiala MP Dr Dharamvira Gandhi alleged that cable mafia, sand mafia, transport mafia, drug mafia have been running under the patronage of the government. Asking the people to vote for right candidates in the coming elections, he appealed to the gathering to throw the present government out of power.
Ludhiana MLA Bains also attacked chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia and food and civil supplies minister Adesh Partap Singh Kairon and blamed them for farmers’ suicides, scams, drug menace and the poor law-and- order situation in the state.
