A fake FIR at the Khalra police station in Tarn Taran district is enough to expose the real face of the state police, Sunil Jakhar, Punjab's leader of the opposition, has said.
"Lodged to create a perfect alibi for murderers, the first-information report vindicates the Punjab Congress charge of ethical and moral bankruptcy of the state police," Jakhar stated on Monday in a press release issued here.
"It's shocking how for a paltry sum, the police are ready to sell their soul to hardcore criminals such as the men fleeing the Uttarakhand murder scene in this case," said Jakhar. "The police made fake arrests against a concocted FIR."
Mere dismissal of the FIR would not expose the entire nexus, said the leader of the state opposition, adding that the chief minister should refer the matter to the central bureau of investigation (CBI) to expose the "influential people behind the game plan".
Punjab Police had become a puppet in the hands of the ruling alliance, which used them to settle political scores and tamper with the electoral process, said Jakhar. "Punjab Police is plagued with turpitude and unprofessional attitude, which entices them to be willing partner in illegal activities," he added.
He said people were at risk, if this kind of "criminal behaviour of police personnel" was not checked.
